By EK That feeling you get when you hear some sexy gritty vocals, combined with the stench of sensual funk that has been sprinkled with a seductive Latin flair. This song has an abundance of blended Flavors. It starts off by easing you into its spell and then it slowly takes you there. It’s like that slow kiss that leads to hot steamy intense love making. This song has the potential of becoming one of those baby making tracks. The song I’m referring to is, “Really Love”. With tantalizing lyrics like: “All night beside you I'd lay I love you deep when you come to my bed” Or Like... “When you touch me there When you make me tingle When our nectars mingle I'm in really love with you, I'm in really love” Lyrics from Metrolyrics When you hear, “I love you deep when you come to my bed” and “When our nectars mingle.” How does your psyche process that? Hmmmm…well, there’s only one person who can pulled this type of Black Magic out of a hat and leave you spellbound with mindgasms, eargasms and O-my!!! I am talking about Mr. Michael Archer, “D’Angelo” himself! Yassss hunty,... he’s back and he’s back with a vengeance! He’s been simmering for 14 years now and just in the knick of time, as the seasons change and the temperature begins to drop; sending a bit of a chill into the air, D’Angelo suddenly appears and throws a little heat in the mix, leaving you with sensual vapors that gives you life…Breath easy. Listen to "Really Love". Warning!!! This Song May Cause An Addictive Reaction Called, Repeat! Labeled as a Neo-Soul artist, although it was never really his style. If you’ve paid close attention to his style in previous years, it wasn’t hard to tell that he was far ahead of his time and the R & B game. Young D’Angelo created his own genre of music in a sense. (Yet to be named... I'll call it D'izm??) If you asked him today, he'd still probably say, he creates "Black Music". He created music that others were afraid of in that era. Sometimes you gotta do you. You can’t just think outside of the box, you have to create your own. I believe D’Angelo was testing the waters with his audience by adding little tidbits of what was brewing within; with his sensual, soulful, jazzy type funk. D'Angelo soon paved the way for many others and though some tried to emulate his style, none could duplicate his style. He created the mold and also broke the mold! When he slipped into darkness, on hiatus or what I’ll call a slow simmer, he was honing his craft and also gathering a few key ingredients that would add just the right amount of spice to enhance the flavor of his genius. Although, he was out of the spotlight for a minute and had endured some personal struggles, he was still involved in the music business. In 2012, he toured in Europe. He later headlined Soul Beach Music Fest, in Aruba. He performed in the US at Bonnaroo Music Festival, The Essence Festival and BET. He opened for Mary J Blige on The Liberation Tour; performed at the Afropunk event in Brooklyn, N Y, Brothers in Arms with Questlove and some others in between. Oh and let's not forget D'Angelo's interview, hosted by Nelson George at the Red Bull Music Academy in Brooklyn, NY this past May, 2014. Memorable quote: “I’m just tryna go deep, deep in the onion,” (And that he did, with "Black Messiah".) I’m ecstatic that D’Angelo is back and giving us that good ish that we've been missing! Yes, he’s back and you better believe he is well seasoned! Poppa’s got a brand new bag! This more seasoned and mature D’Angelo has a more Eclectic, Sensual, Gritty, Soul-Funk kind of sound that teeters on the edginess of Rock. Please don’t get it twisted, he still has that same smooth walk and ruff neck feel to him. He’s just simply creating music that he loves, while continuing to set himself apart from the rest by not sticking to what’s hot at the moment. His thought process is far greater than average musically, which is why he is so well received internationally. (In my Opinion) Let’s Get A Few Things Straight! Social media is abuzz with people posting then (his “Untitled How Does It Feel” video days) and now comparison pictures. Whether tongues wag in regards to his music or people continued to compare the younger to the more mature D’Angelo and his sexiness - he'll still be D'Angelo, a musical genius. Before he was made out to be a sex symbol, he was an amazing talented raw and uncut musician that gave us some real feel good music. I believe when people begin putting physicality above artistry, the musical aspect starts to get lost. Above all, D’Angelo is a musician first. Although artists/musicians will be eye candy to their fans, remember every artist/musician is not cut out for what comes along with being deemed as a sex symbol, especially if it begins to overshadow their craft or if it’s something they have never dreamed of being. D’Angelo displays nothing more than being a musical legion of his time and then some. Now let's be clear! His sexy comes from within. His mystique; the essence of his sexy and sensualness is displayed by his vocals; the way he plays each key on the piano, the way his fingers strum his guitar and the energy that he creates when he performs. It’s not hard to tell how his subliminal seduction captivates something deep within his audience, because they send that energy right back to him. Now that’s the Art of his Sexy! Don’t get me wrong the brother is sexy, BUT there is more to him than meets the eye. Remember, All Things of Pleasure Begin In The Mind. Let’s Talk More About Black Messiah Black Messiah is Topping the Charts, Nationally and Internationally. Not Too Shabby For Someone Who Hasn't Had An Album Out in 14 Years. Is Black Messiah Worth The Wait...Hells Yeah! (In my Adam Sandler voice) It seems as though an energy force field was created around D’Angelo during the creation of Black Messiah. Strong energy powered by legends like, Prince; the late Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and others from the rock, funk, blues, Jazz and R & B genres. Black Messiah is where you’ll find some foreplay, in between the sheets music; some feel good music and if you want some of those blood pumping, foot tapping, hand clapping, finger popping, booty shaking - you know, those good gawd tracks? Take a listen to, two of my favorites, “Sugah Daddy” and “Ain’t That Easy”. I'm Sure You'll Find A Few Of Your Own. My feel good tracks is, “Another Life” When I first heard it, it had sounds of super groups like, Earth Wind and Fire, Blue Magic, The Stylistics and then it had a Prince kind of feel towards the end. Hot damn, that’s like a mini concert all wrapped up into one track! When I think of “Ain’t That Easy”, I think of red light bulb parties in the basement, It 's like a good trip down memory lane. Now the deeper tracks are, 1000 Deaths and Till It's Done (Tutu). With twelve tracks in all, yes, you are going to go through the motions with this one here. Black Messiah is definitely on point. So, grab a few D’Angelo fans and throw your own listening party! Remember, Good Music Soothes The Soul. D’Angelo has a kick-ass band called, The Vanguard. The Vanguard are incredibly talented singers, writers and musicians with vocals not of this planet; especially now that we are in the world of auto tune. Now, don't get me wrong, I’m not knocking those who use it to enhance their music. But...The Vanguard, are some bad mothers… (Shut your Mouth) and their vocals are unfiltered, no hookups needed…ya dig? Gotta Slip This One In.... My Energy is on High, After Sugah Daddy Live.... (D'Angelo is an Energy God) Voodoo And Black Messiah Yes, we loved the Voodoo album and people are most certainly comparing the two. Yes, some songs off the Black Messiah album may give you that Voodoo feel, but that’s a good feel, (in my honest opinion.) We need to feel a little of that classic D’Angelo, while being open-minded to his new style. D’Angelo is about making great music and that we can most certainly appreciate. Voodoo and Black Messiah are incredible masterpieces and I’m sure that Black Messiah will also be talked about for years to come. Pick up your copy of Black Messiah by D’Angelo and The Vanguard, It won’t disappoint. Warning…Some Songs May Become Highly Addictive. Clear your palates, because what you’re about to taste is gonna set fire taste buds on Fire! D’Angelo is serving up a damn good pot of gumbo. I'm going to leave you with this thought - I'm just going to put it out in the atmosphere. Remember when Erykah Badu's Baduizm came out and then about a year later, she dropped Erykah Badu Live? Psssst D'Angelo...How about a Black Messiah Live album?? Well...Like I said, I'm just putting it out there. PS. It's Almost Time To Go... So, Let Me Slow it down and Take You Back For A Moment. Let's Go Back...Way Back, Back To The Brown Sugar Days.
This Has Been Real - So Much Energy - So Much Fun! Peace and Love....EK
